The Accra-Tema Motorway has been a seen of heavy vehicular traffic in the past few days. This is because the bridge on the Lakplakpa River on the Accra bound section is currently undergoing repairs.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways says its engineers are working day and night to reconstruct the deck. The bridge on the Accra-Tema Motorway is been done with modern technology of concrete preparation to ensure that the road is opened to traffic by Friday, 17th June, 2022 at 6am.
The Ghana Highway Authority has since Monday, June 13, being repairing the Lakplakpa River Bridge resulting in heavy vehicular traffic which is worsened during rush hours.
The Roads Ministry explained that the repair works has become necessary because although one span of the 2-span bridge was replaced with a steel deck in 2014, the steel deck had failed and defects had occurred in the remaining reinforced concrete slab.

Repair works on the Accra-Tema Motorway according to the Roads Ministry is in order to save life and property by repairing the steel beams and wields which have become defective.
According to the Ministry, traffic management measures have been put in place to alleviate any inconveniences to motorists advising the Beach road be looked at as an alternative.
“The motoring public is advised to use alternative roads such as Fertilizer Road, Tsui Bleoo Road, Spintex Road 1, Teshie Link, Adogon Highway and Burma Camp Roads 1 & 2 and follow directional signs”.
