Ghana Police Service over the years has carried out dutifully their mandate of protecting lives and properties. The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has noted that Government, in recognition of the difficulties and dangers confronting police personnel in the discharge of their duties, remains committed to resourcing the Service. This the government will continue to do by the provision of adequate personnel and logistics to enable them deliver on their mandate.

The President stated that “in 2017, there were eight hundred (800) CCTV installations in the country for surveillance purposes. The figure he noted at the end of his first term, had gone up to six thousand, five hundred (6,500), and, by the end of the year, another three thousand, five hundred (3,500) would have been added, making a total of almost eleven thousand (11,000) in the country.”

Also government has strengthened the cybercrime-fighting capabilities of the Ghana Police Service, through the setting up of a Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Centre at the National Communications Authority (NCA).

President Akufo Addo said that the security challenges confronting Ghana are complicated and unusual. According to him, the recent crimes reported in parts of the country have triggered conversations around the need to intensify protection of lives and properties.

“Two hundred (200) motorbikes have also been distributed to members of the Community Policing initiative to boost the presence of the police in our communities. Modern communication equipment and four thousand, five hundred (4,500) fragmentation jackets have been procured and delivered to the Service to protect officers, and help ensure effective policing,”

President Akufo-Addo said these on Friday, 1st October 2021, when he delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony of the 50th Cadet Officers’ Course, at the Police Training Academy, at Tesano, Accra.
