Religious bodies and faith-based organizations have been taken through what the law says about their activities. The session/meeting was spear-headed by Ghanaian lawyers, lawyer Ace Ankomah and lawyer Samson Ayenini who served as resource persons highlighting the rights and limitations of the religious community within the confines of the law.

This session was part of the Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare’s invitation to Heads of religious bodies and faith-based organisations to a meeting at a police head-quarters in Accra. The meeting was to dialogue on the topic: Religion and the Law.

Other issues discussed included provisions of the constitution relating to freedom of religion, the church/mosque as a corporate entity, criminal offenses that may be committed by religious bodies or their appointees and the possible human rights abuses.

In attendance at the dialogue were representatives from the Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Office of the National Chief Imam, Independent Churches Association of Ghana, and others.

According to a communique by the Ghana Police Service, after the dialogue, the meeting was to enable the IGP brief religious bodies in the country on the legal implications of some of their actions.
