The Food and Drugs Authority states reasons for Marwako food positioning.

The Food and Drugs Authority says heavy microbial load (pathogens) and other environmental swabs as found at the East Legon branch of Marwako Food Fast Food were responsible for the reported food borne diseases.

“Analyses of samples of food, some juice drinks, and swaps taken from the environment at the East Legon branch of Mawarko Fast Food Limited indicate that there was heavy microbial load (pathogens) which may be linked to the foodborne disease reported.

Samples collected from the Abelenkpe and La branches were also found to be contaminated” according to the Food and Drugs Authority.

The Food and Drugs Authority in a statement released to give the public update also noted that the handling of food ingredients, food preparations area where poor.

“The levels of sanitation and hygiene in the food preparation areas in all three facilities were poor. It was also established that there were poor storage practices. The temperatures of deep freezers and refrigerators were far above the acceptable ranges”, the statement added.

In March this year, some patrons took to social media to complain about how food they ate over the weekend purchased at Marwako East Legon branch affected them. Most of the them noted how they ended up in various hospitals in Accra due to food poisoning.

The Food and Drugs Authority after citing these complaints headed to the branch to commence investigations into the situation.
